Helpful Information for New Patients
We welcome new patients of all ages to our practice
Initial Appointments
We allow an hour for your first appointment. This lets us get to know you and establish how we can best meet your needs. First, we will review your medical and dental history to help us understand your unique situation and past experience. We recognise that for many people, a trip to the dentist is not their favourite thing. Please let us know if you experience any level of dental anxiety, as an open discussion about this helps us tailor a plan to manage this for you.
Our rooms have been designed to help soothe your senses, but we recognise that for some people, a sedative – either in the form of nitrous oxide (happy gas) or oral sedation – is required. Please let us know in advance of your appointment if this is the case so we can make the necessary arrangements.
We will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth to help us assess your current oral health. We will recommend X-rays if appropriate. We will then clean your teeth to remove any plaque and tartar. We will review your at-home oral hygiene routine and, in consultation with you, develop a treatment plan to support your ongoing oral health.
Emergency Appointments
We recognise that dental problems can arise suddenly and unexpectedly, so we keep time aside each day to accommodate emergencies such as a toothache, broken tooth or denture. After-hours emergency care is available to our existing patients.
Location
We are located at 3/5 Railway Parade, Kiama – between the Kiama Library and Active Feet Podiatry.
Access
Our rooms are located on the ground floor and are accessible to wheelchair and walker users.
Parking
Two-hour parking is available on-street and in the carpark adjacent to Kiama Library.
Payment
Generally, payment is required on the day of treatment. We accept cash and EFTPOS (including debit cards, MasterCard® and Visa).
HICAPS
If you belong to a health fund, we can process your claim instantly on your behalf via HICAPS, the electronic health claims system. This means you can receive your health insurance benefit on the day of your treatment and only have to pay the gap.
Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) and Veterans’ Affairs
We bulk-bill patients who qualify under these schemes.
